Sound of Contusion

Josh Skating Photos

Hello fellow Robosapiens, I am here today to share with you (in no particular order) some photographs we’ve taken since the last moment in time that we communed.

Nick Mistele – Frontside Wallride
Max Murphy – Frontside Wallride
A party with friends is still a party.
Vince Stranc – Pole Jam Melon. We got sponsored by Culver’s because of this photo.
Max Murphy nosegrinds some various trash and debris that we combined into what one might considered a somewhat skateable obstacle.
Nick Matthews – Gap to Noseblunt – in the Promised Land.
Max Murphy clears the water hazard. Is skateboarding permissible under maritime law?
Samhain collage.
Vince rotates fiercely into a alley oop fakie smith type situation.
Marriage collage.
Max Murphy – Backside Noseblunt

Adios friends.

Max & Timmy: Pop Art

Josh Skating Videos

Max Murphy and Timmy Johnson, for Strangelove Skateboards. The streets of Chicago and Milwaukee, brutalized. Decimated crust.

I had no photos of tricks from the video. In lieu of a photograph, I present this especially skillful sketch of Max grinding up the stoplight, as seen in the video above.

Rewind: Mini Video 45 – I Can Feel It

Josh Skating Videos

Rewind! If you’re just joining us, years ago I started a project to try to reupload the older videos in the best quality that they’ve even been presented. I also tried to supplement the videos with contemporaneous images. It’s been a couple of years and the project has been delayed a bit.

Anyway, number 44 – originally posted July 7, 2008. A mere two weeks after Mini Video 44. It looks like when I was writing about Mini Video 44 I accidently used up some of the photos that I should’ve saved for this one.

We’ll start with these photos I took of Jean Luc Picard using my Motorola brand Droid smartphone. I’m glad I saved these photos for 15(?!) years. God knows how useful they were. Email me, let’s discuss your favorite TNG episodes. Do you think Picard covered in mud is someone’s fetish? We can also discuss.

Max Murphy, bomb drop. He had way less miles on him then. Always prepared to bomb drop on cue for laughs and for fun.

Dogs! These guys are no longer with us. :'( Molly on the left. Aka Wonky. Loved chips. Nietzsche on the right. Love to bite human hands. “God is dead.”

Max Hurricanes while his buddies parkour. We sorely miss the Wendy’s banks. Some still exist. But these were the best ones.

Tj Bohach – Crailslide. The carwash banks. Are they still there? Not sure.

That’s all for now!

Notable Moments in VHS History

Josh Skating Videos

Recently Mike Munzenrider asked me what the first video clip posted to the website was. I wasn’t sure. After an admittedly low amount of research I came the conclusion that it was a 2.43 second clip of Pat Gaynor doing a noseslide on a rail in Nashville, TN. File created 6-16-99. This clip was from a trip we took in the previous year, so I was already posting old material right off the bat.

During Covid lockdown I had found and captured this raw footage.

In 1999 much effort was required to capture, upload, download, and finally, to view this file. Working for it – it probably toughened one up a little bit. Now we have the TikToks and the Tweeters. Is the world better/worse? What are we doing here anyway?

Unrelated, but while i was looking through ancient versions of wiskate.com, I found a photo of Pat doing a heelflip at the long defunct fountain spot. 1995.

This spot was where the Calatrava wing of the Milwaukee Art Museum is now.

I apologize for the unexpected fountain tangent. I just get too excited whenever the topic arises.

The Way You Fur, The How You Purr

Josh Skating Photos

We’re here. Half a heart left on the health meter. Barely going.

Vince Stranc – Boardslide Across and Down
Street meats. Found at the spot. Heated by the pavement.
Max Murphy – Wallride Nollie. Classic through the glass photography technique. Potentially should’ve shot at night and dragged the shutter for more classicicity.
Standard angle.
Max Murphy – Duck Ollie. Quack.
Friends being friends.
Payne Counihan – Slappy Switch Crook
Max Murphy – Tailslide to Fakie
Nick Mistele – Frontside Crooked Grind to Fakie
Yikes
Sean Hanley – “Log Feel” Noseslide Pop Over

The site turns 25 this year. Hopefully we meet again. Auf weidersehen.

Sky High Skate Jams 2003-2023

Josh Skating Videos

Hi! I just wanted a vehicle to post these few 20 year old skate jam videos that I recently uploaded to the ‘ol wis-kate youtubes channel. The first two are from 2003, and the third is from 2004. These may have been completely missing from the internet for some time, I am not sure. Either way, I’m glad to present this tangentially Boban related data.

To make this thematic, I will now attach a photo from 8-5-23 of Taylor Lalk doing a backside lipslide. 20 years of skate jams!
