A VHS tape of 1990s Milwaukee skateboarding long thought lost. I recently found the tape in a box of NES games that hadn’t been opened in approximately fifteen years. Pat Forster, Bill Kaschner, James Rewolsinki, John Rockafellow, Dave Erickson, and more.
Marvel at the long lost spots. Be surprised at which still exist. Laugh. Cry. Reminisce.
Last night we celebrated twenty five years on this internet. The party took place at the Cactus Club here in Milwaukee, the same place the ten year celebration took place. If you missed it, I’ve prepared this simulation:
Russ Clark and I manned the turntables. I kept track of all that was played using this Spotify playlist. Press play on this.
Then press play on this Youtube playlist. Mute the audio. Sit back for seven hours.
Here are some photos from the event:
Thanks to everyone that came out to celebrate! Thanks to Sky High and Cactus Club for facilitating and hosting. See you again in 2049.

Today is wiskate’s 25th birthday! Josh was nice enough to make me a contributor a few years ago and according to the archives my first post was on February 17, 2017. I usually post videos so I thought it fitting to make a 25 min video of footage from my first entry to my last to celebrate. Some is raw, some is from the actual video…probably best viewed as is or with your favorite music playlist. Will the site make it to 30? Only time knows that answer.
25 Years Wiskate from Gabe Chan on Vimeo.
Twenty five big ones. This website was switched on 12/18/98. A quarter of a century later, we are still here. How? Why? Not an easy thing to answer.
Listen above as Templeton, Patrick, Jason, and I discuss the early days of wiskate.com – the website you are currently looking at. Thanks to the Mostly Skateboarding Podcast for showing some love!
If you’re interested in the history of the website, there’s a somewhat comprehensive document showcasing the various design failures, highs, lows, firsts, and lasts. You may board this internet time machine by clicking the link here.
I’d like to thank all of the site contributors over the years. From the earliest – when the site first acquired an embryonic CMS system – which for the first time allowed multiple people to post on the site. Steve Green, Mark Heiderich, Pat Gaynor, Tim Olson, Russ Clark, Nate Heilberger, Bill Kaschner, and James Rewolinski. To later very valuable contributors like Bradford Bishop, Pat Forster, Eric Risser, Chase Hopper, John Mcguire, Vince Stranc, Nick Mistele, Jacob Tyler Mumford, Harald Reynolds, and Gabe Chan. There’s dozens more that made one or a few posts, I could never name them all!
Thanks for coming to all of the video premiers. Thanks for talking shit on the message board. Thanks for skating. Thanks for it all!
Join us for a 25 year celebration on Jan 2, 2024 at the Cactus Club in Bayview. 6pm til….

Editor note: Patching in the Sleep Dogg here – Photos and text below by Sleepy Mistele:
The Doggboss wrangled all the pups in the van and we were off to St. Louis. Hopped in a couple whips, drank a couple brews, dabbed a couple dabs and landed a couple maneuvers.
2nd Memory from Gabe Chan on Vimeo.
The beginning of a duplicate’s memories, dreams, and nightmares. Starring Sean Hanley, Pat Forster, Vince Stranc, Max Murphy, Gabe Chan, Nick Mistele, Payne Counihan, Taylor Lalk, Max Tellefson, David Gackstetter, Paul Carlson, Jeremy Przybyla, and Ryan Pfeiffer.
Max Murphy and Timmy Johnson, for Strangelove Skateboards. The streets of Chicago and Milwaukee, brutalized. Decimated crust.
I had no photos of tricks from the video. In lieu of a photograph, I present this especially skillful sketch of Max grinding up the stoplight, as seen in the video above.
