The Push

I think that every photographer has one of these photos. I love them. It’s just someone pushing. The most simple and basic part of skating, but it gets me everytime. Maybe cause it’s artsy. Maybe cause it speaks of power and grace. Maybe it’s just cause I’m a photo/art nerd. Who knows.

In any regard, I used to think that these photos were taken by someone just happening to be in the right place at the right time. I was a fool. What photographer in his right mind is standing across a street or parking lot or whatever just to get a photo of someone pushing like mad at… at… well… they’d better be looking to backside flip the Wallenberg Four. That link makes no sense though cause Mr. Reynolds is using a drop in ramp… but you get my drift. Right? Anyway… If you had someone pushing that fast at something, you’d better have your ass where the action is. Not pointing your lens at where their pushing from… or to. So after many months of carrying my camera around just hoping to catch the right moment, I decided to set it up.

Here we have a spot with crazy blue garage doors. This is the herring place on Humbolt and Locust. Ma Hersch’s I believe. Dave is wearing a spectacular yellow shirt to contrast all that blue and black pants cause we already have enough blue. I must have shot this 50 times trying to get it just right. It was a pain in the ass… I think Dave hates me now. Either way, I dig it and I can’t wait until the next time I make some poor smuck skate back and forth in front of the same spot over and over and over and over…

Enjoy…

Milwaukee has a bunch of up and coming photogs right now. Drews and Risser are the noteables. See their stuff and leave comments over at our little brother site Milwaukee Skateboardinghere.
